British duo claim open water medals

Keri-Anne Payne and Cassandra PattenBritain made it five swimming medals in Beijing as Keri-Anne Payne and Cassie Patten claimed silver and bronze in the open water event.

Payne and Patten set the pace throughout the 10000m race, and were only overhauled in the final 750m by Russian world champion Larisa Ilchenko, who beat Payne by just one and a half seconds to claim gold.

Bronze for windsurfer Shaw

Bryony ShawBryony Shaw secured Britain's fifth sailing medal of the Beijing Olympic Games, coming home second in the RS:X women's medal race to claim a bronze in Qingdao.

In a dramatic race, the 25-year-old came in 12 seconds behind Italy's Alessandra Sensini to secure third place overall.

Reade bounces back from early fall

Shanaze ReadeOlympic gold medal favourite Shanaze Reade survived an injury scare in her first seeding race for the semi-finals of Thursday's BMX.

The 19-year-old, a two-time world champion, crashed on the first bend of the first run through the track at Laoshan in south west Beijing where she scraped her elbow and thigh and looked to be holding her wrist as she came off the course.

Pakistan issue Champions Trophy threat

Pakistan will not participate in the Champions Trophy if the tournament is moved to another country the Pakistan Cricket Board have stated.

Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand have all expressed reservations about competing due to security concerns but if the ICC decide to stage the Champions Trophy elsewhere - Sri Lanka has been touted as a possible destination - the PCB insist Pakistan will not be taking part.

The RiversideEngland's Twenty20 international against South Africa has been called off 24 hours in advance following heavy rain at the Chester-le-Street ground.

Authorities made the decision to call off England's only competitive Twenty20 game before their Stanford match in Antigua on November 1 after arriving at the ground to find the outfield saturated.
